Ageism
If you’ve ever wondered where the word “ageism” came from, or about its actual definition, here it is: In 1968, Dr. Robert Butler coined the term ageism to describe what he observed as a systematic discrimination against older people. Although fifty-five years have passed since he wrote about the ramifications of ageism on the population at large, and specifically on senior citizens, the established cultural attitudes concerning older adults have remained in place.
In this workshop, you will share your ideas and attitudes concerning ageism, as well as your experiences. A thorough examination of the effects of ageism will be explored, particularly how ageism continues to place unfair limitations on the ability of older adults to live in a manner that reduces stress—regardless of what the chosen life-style may be.
Discussing Ageism in a group setting is a topic that always creates passionate discussions among participants.
